Lekture · Evidence checked 10 September 2026
The illustrator credits are mostly recoverable. The license conflicts need action.
Three Luna agents reviewed all 99 missing-credit records. The primary agent fetched and checked the public GDL listing, H5P payload and detail payload for all 138 GDL books. No book or publication status was changed.
What to do with the published catalogue
Hold the 65 conflicting books from commercial distribution. Their embedded notices say CC BY-NC 4.0 in 40 cases and CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 in 25. The GDL listing and stored catalogue label them CC BY 4.0. A generic listing label does not resolve a contradictory rights notice. Seek authoritative clarification, separate commercial permission, or replace these books.
The other 73 need no blanket removal for a missing illustrator field. Of these, 48 have recovered names to restore, 23 already have names, and 2 still have an unspecified illustrator. Retain all supplied attribution and copyright notices, prior adaptation notices, and license/source links. This is a scoped source-evidence recommendation, not a certification that every published credit is already complete.
The 65 conflicts include 49 of the missing-credit books and 16 with existing illustrator credits. Fixing the illustrator parser alone would therefore miss part of the problem.
CC BY 4.0 attribution conditions require retaining supplied creator identification and notices and identifying modifications. CC BY-NC restricts commercial use; CC BY-NC-SA also imposes ShareAlike on adaptations. Whether a use is commercial depends on its purpose, not simply whether the individual book is free.
Why the previous audit was wrong
Illustrator names appear in public H5P chapter text and were already stored in the import manifest’s full credit text. The current role parser expects another contributor role or the end of the entire text after a name. Later copyright paragraphs and new lines cause it to miss the final illustrator role. Running the existing expression on the saved credit text for 3…2…1… Blast Off produced only the author, although the same text names illustrator Vidyun Sabhaney.
The importer checks the listing license and image copyright metadata, but does not reconcile contradictory licenses inside credit pages. The mobile attribution formatter renders selected roles, publisher, changes and links; it has no field for the complete source copyright and prior-adaptation notices. Restoring names must include preserving those notices in an accessible attribution view.
- Fix contributor parsing with real multiline credit-page fixtures, role boundaries and placeholder rejection. Preserve credited pseudonyms and separate contributors from illustrators.
- Make conflicting or restrictive credit-page licenses block publication under the CC BY-only intake policy. Save the evidence and source edition.
- Restore verified credits and full notices. Normalize duplicate names and HTML entities without changing identity.
- Reconcile the catalogue against the hold list below. Require authoritative evidence before re-enabling conflicting books.
These are identified repairs. This audit did not implement them or modify the database.
The three remaining illustrator exceptions
- The Caterpillar’s Friend: illustrator placeholder in the source. Already included in the 65-book hold list because its credit notice says CC BY-NC-SA.
- The Journalist: illustrator placeholder; source cover names Alyson Curro, but embedded original-story author and publisher fields are also placeholders. No NC conflict found. Track the source inconsistency and retain supplied attribution.
- Three Gifts: illustrator placeholder; author Wong Chew Wee and publisher National Library Board, Singapore supplied. CC BY 4.0 stated in source credit text. Retain translation credits too.
“Unresolved” means no reliable name was established from checked sources. It does not mean the book has no illustrator. The other recoveries include official Book Dash credits for Graca’s Dream, a GDL-hosted translated edition of Cat & Dog and the Rain, and BASAbali’s exact book record for Luh Ayu Manik Mas, Making a Mobile Library.
Book-by-book decisions and evidence
“Restore credits” and “No NC conflict found” are conditional recommendations to retain correct attribution, not a declaration that current reader credits are complete. “Keep with exception” applies only to missing names in the checked source; it does not waive license conditions.

Scope and evidence limits
The configured database contained 144 storybooks: 138 GDL imports and 6 Lekture samples. This report covers the 138 imports. The database has no publication flag on these records; deployed production availability was not independently checked. All 138 listing entries and both public metadata payloads were retrieved successfully, with retries for two requests. Saved local import credit text corroborates the license conflicts. Three unknown-license source images were recorded as skipped by the importer and are not counted as new publication conflicts.
The 99 empty illustrator lists received individual Luna review, with primary-agent reconciliation and direct checks of exceptions. The other 39 received the broader license scan; a populated illustrator field is not proof of complete role attribution. No exhaustive pixel-by-pixel review, independent rights-holder confirmation, or phone test was performed for this metadata audit.
Public evidence links are attached per record. Snapshots and structured results are saved locally under .lekture-qa/credits-audit/. GDL’s public API documentation describes the source; no private endpoint reverse engineering was needed.
